| How It Works
The Internet access from South Shore Community Broadband is a wireless service. Unlike cable, DSL, or satellite services, your Community Broadband comes to you by way of radio signals that are transmitted throughout the area.
There is a fibre optic connection to our network centre in Keswick, which brings the world wide web directly to the town of Georgina.
Wireless radios are then used to beam the signal to the various towers we have located strategically throughout the community.
Then, from the towers, we broadcast the Internet signal to the homes and businesses located within the surrounding area.
By carefully engineering tower locations and equipment technologies, we will eventually be able to cover almost all parts of the town - especially those rural areas that are now limited to dialup or slower, more expensive wireless or satellite alternatives.

How It Reaches You
The way the signal then gets from our towers into your home or place of business is really very simple.
An antenna that is designed specifically to receive the Internet signal is mounted in a high place on the outside of your house or office building.
A cable is then run into your building to connect the antenna to your computer or wireless router.
The type of antenna you will need depends on a number of things such as the distance of your location from the nearest tower, whether you are on high ground or in a low-lying area, the trees and foliage on the properties around you, and the height of your home or building.
